hello Hellolulu!

I had to let go of my Case Logic messenger bag because it didn't work for me. It was too big and my shoulders ached everytime I had to take my laptop out to meet a client. True, it was a smart bag - it had extra compartments that provide additional storage, it was padded for your laptop's safety, and it evan has matching usb shuttle that can hold two usb drives. But it wasn't logical for me.

But hello hello, Hellolulu! This compact laptop case fits me so well. It offers two ways of carrying my laptop - horizontal and vertical orientations, and add three more carrying styles with the detachable shoulder strap sling. Variations are good, because sometimes you need to switch carrying positions to help your body breathe - if you know what I mean.

Ok, I admit. It was the furry green soft velvet lining with that cute stiched-in name tag that closed the deal.

cake hunting

My 2.10yo is going to have his 3rd birthday in Cebu. It's going to be his first birthday here so I'm making sure he'd have the best memory of it. With his 1st and 2nd birthdays in Dubai, we stayed indoors because it's the peak of summer.

We need to plan out where to have the party. He loves the waters, so it would be cool for him to have a beach or a pool party. Or we can have it in a nice park where all the kids could run around with their bikes. Bottomline, my son would love to celebrate his birthday under the sun.

I need to find the perfect cake. Last year we improvised and had fun. Zaiid too was happy with it. We bought a mini cake from BreadTalk and replaced the toppings with his favourite characters from Cars. The characters are hardboard cutouts so we only had to paste a toothpick so we could stick it on to the cake. I would
love to have a cake, not so fancy or
costly, that speaks the habits or favourites of my son. Something he would appreciate and be proud of. I hope I could get my budget and imagination ready and in time.

morning shoot

It's an early morning thing. Little brother wakes up 2 hours earlier than his big brother. Big brother wakes up and calls for his little brother. They sit while mama takes a picture. Nice way to start the morning.

alt_key_broken_by_Akii!

My 8month old Macbook Pro has never been this swolen since Zaiid's crazy clay days. This is the work of my 8month old baby, showing his affection to our "appo" already.

dadilo

His day is always full with his daily routine: cook, his usual car business, his BLD business, his whatever-a-Dadi-is-always-busy-with business... He still takes time to be with his apos. And who could blame a grandfather who feels every bit of peace and happiness with his grandbabies.

happy to come home.

So eager to go to school, equally eager to go home. His little brother awaits his kuya smelling dirt and crayons and sun. They say hi and kiss away forever.

an insane amount of faith

I am always a believer of the Big Picture. Even how sour a day could be, or how deep I am swallowed by the biggest failure I made, I am sure that at the end of a hardship, there's always a bigger picture that says: you were part of that mess to sacrifice and achieve this grandest universal story.

Faith is something no one can give you. It is rooted deeper than hope, or maybe love. Of course I could be wrong because this is just me, saying things that could at least erase any fears sleeping or lingering somewhere in my head.

"With a little help of Rust-eze - and an insane amount of luck - you too can look like me. Ka-chow." says Lightning McQueen, but I'd like to rephrase it in my terms: With a little help of a wise plan and an insane amount of faith, everything will fall into place. Because we can only do so much and it's His time and His yes, that could move mountains. We can only plan, and hope, and believe that things will move according to His will.

And everytime, the Big Picture always put everybody in a smile.

his school castle

He loves the school playground where a big castle stands, a playmate who's so huggable, and the songs they sing before going home. But it's the school castle he loves above all, the biggest reason why we arrive 30 minutes before his class starts.

I know he'd miss this terribly when summer school ends and we fly back to Dubai. And there's no way a new place can duplicate this kind of happiness in Cebu. But we will try and look harder so he'd have a new adventure to keep with his papa and me and his little brother, a fuller kind of happiness.

Keane you believe it!

I know the title is a bit corny but I cannot believe it! Keane is hitting Dubai on 8th July at Madinat Jumeirah and in luck, I am home by 6th July! I hope me and my husband won't miss their gig. It's not going to be big as the Coldplay concert though, but, this time both of us are fans. *blush.

My Preschooler: that first project

He showed me his first bring-home project called "Maiz con Yelo". He was smiling and happy to give it to me. I thought it was sweet. I wouldn't even know if he'd actually made it himself or if his teacher helped him do it, because he would only give me a "no no" and a smile if I'd ask him what stuff they did at school.

handsewn iPod case

I'm soooo happy! I am more than satisfied with the result. This is my first dare to make something out from my awesome fabrics. Please I just had to start already!

With no pattern or sample in hand, I only had to take advantage of my imagination. Using a BeeSquare fabric and from my cut-off shorts left over, a recycled velcro from my mom's bag (thanks momi and sorry!). I promise to do more, and make them perfect handsewn.

I'm especially loving the airplane prints, it suits well for my little iPod addict.

That smile

...could melt hearts. My all-smiles champ just turned 8months old last Friday. He loves the outdoors more than his brother does and when outside, he'd put up the serious face. He mostly enjoys his walker trips and gets excited when the electric fan's turned on. Such a silly thing, but I guess happiness can pop up just about anywhere.

Taken during the sunday mass, happy to be out with the family and to say hi to God. This smile is from an old soul, an angel, my baby. Well what do you know, he looks like he's on a plane heading to Dubai :)

mixing bracelets

I am very particular with bracelets. It's the first thing I notice when somebody walks in the room if she's ever wearing one. Like any other fashionable item I wear, it has to depend on the mood I'm in: lazy or lucky or sunny.

I love to combine and mix bracelets. This three bracelet combination is on top of my list these days. I think it's a refined, laid back hippie mood. The blue marble one (is actually a necklace which I had to fix and replace the hook using only a nipper!) and the vintage bangle were from my Momsie's (my grandmother) treasure box. The third one which has a lovely mix of charms and beads I got from Monsoon, Accessorize one of my favourite shops in Dubai.

My Preschooler: Day 4

I spent most of the waiting time with my iPod and a book. But today, I met a pretty baby girl named Patricia, 2.3yo and is as heavy as my boy. She was waiting for her mom to pick her up and had all the playground by herself. So I decided to play with her. She doesn't talk yet, you can't pin out a single word out of her made up sentences. But she hummed a song and I hummed along. She was pleased that I can "imitate" her singing. We had a good laugh.

Nice meeting you Patricia, see you tomorrow!

BEEhold! they're here!

Whoot! My Bee Square fabrics are here and  I'm so so so smiling with delight! They smell good and they're shouting for a baby bootie or a pillow case or even a little girl's dress. I can stare at them whole day...

Thanks for my freebie Diane, you didn't have to. But... uh... I'm glad you did. I am so thrilled to have the airplanes for free :)

My Preschooler: Day 3

This is going to be a short post. Zaiid is finally asleep and my head is hurting. But I still want to share these adorable pics of my boy:

On this short post, I must mention that: 1. He has finished the whole session for the first time and joined in the singing part of their class. His laughter stood out and I pushed back a tear for I am so proud of this little guy. 2. He insisted on staying and cried because he doesn't want to bid goodbye to the teachers and to his school. What a funny act. 3. I finished up The Graveyard Book and thought it had an acceptable happy ending.

Our happy picture taken inside the car after he finally agreed to go home as I told him that Akii is waiting for him. Of course, he misses his little brother too.

i love you.

You call for my name "Mammmamamam!" while extending your arms.
You want me to carry you and sing you a song.
You give me a short gummy smile, you reach for my nose.

I love you little love magnet.

My Preschooler: Day 2

He was so eager to get back to school, all sunny and so ready to get to the slide. We packed up everything (never forget milk) and arrived twenty minutes before the class starts. He had so much to do! He welcomed new classmates and got along with them easily. He was running and trying new tricks. I still can't believe I am actually getting my baby to school. He was having the time of his life.

Parents were no longer allowed to go behind the hallway fence (that hallway leading to their classroom) so I kissed my little independent preschooler while he held his milk tightly. Off he went with the biggest grin on his face. He loves going to school.

So I wait. I read. On the other side of the world, Bod too is learning things - the odd way. I can't believe I missed that little guy already. And he's only gone for two hours!

home since... 1946?!

We got a surprise visit from a kid who had lived in our home in 1946. How eerie is that! He wanted to see how "his home" looked like today. And most importantly he was curious to see that old tree beside the water tank across our home. He showed us proof of his family standing on our very staircase all yellowish and torn. It read: Pepito-Paredes Family.

Hmmm. A couple of years from now when we leave this place, it might be fun to give the family occupying our Eversley home a visit and give them a boo! That would be interesting to see.

First request of the day: his baby brother rides on his back.

My Preschooler: Day 1

At 10am we head out to Children's Paradise Montessori School for my almost-3yo-boy's preschool summer class. I think I was nervous just by a tiny bit...ok it was a little bit more. I'm not sure what to expect. I just wanted Zaiid to enjoy his day and gain new friends.

Parents and guardians were not allowed inside their classroom unless it was time to. We were ask to hang out in the waiting room. Good thing I brought Neil and Mr. iPod. After months of book craving, I was able to read again. Still, my mind was wandering, imagining Zaiid crying, or worse - demanding for me.

An hour passed and finally I get to see my little boy. To my surprise, he wasn't even in his classroom! He went to another room, where older kids were busy doing an art activity. He was the curious and always moving one, the teachers just let him be.

I can see he accepted the the whole deal that yes he is ready for school. Observing the other students, he was the only one interested in blocks and tunnels and cars. He was always busy with things and moving around, but when he spotted me with a bright gleam on his face he asked for a bottle of milk.

Although I was expecting more of a Playhouse kind of style where a teacher would let them do some activity together. Or painting or doing some singing. But maybe a montessori has other ways of teaching. We'll see. After all, this is still day number one.

rainbow happy me

Feeling blessed and lucky to have the most fulfilling "job" in the world: being a mother.

I carried you for 9 months or so and everyday I get worried if my womb is good enough at all. I labored you out of sweat, screams and love, finally get literally sliced up so you could live. At the end of each day I assess my performance, and everytime it seems like there's a lot of room for improvement. I don't feel the need of an appreciation from you and yet you think I am all that matters in the world and that everything else is second to your eyes. Thank you my baby puddings.

I am proud to have two mothers, both showing different styles of loving (if there is such a term), and that reality made me twice stronger. In them I knew how deep a mother's sacrifice can go and how love can grow magnificently with grace and time. Thank you Mama and Momi for the life I have as a daughter.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the world.

thanks fyns!

From her short coming back home swhoosh trip, she didn't forget to bring me a little pasalubong from Singapore. Happy me, it's a little Roxy love keyring! I love the little shells and marbles. So my type! Thanks fyns, love you!

The Blocks Tunnel

Playing with your babies is as important as letting them drink their vitamins. I love playing with my 2.9yo. Every game or toy I invent for our playtime is magic to him. Now that he loves numbers and letters, I took advantage of his blocks and built a tunnel for his cars. He totally loves it.

Goodbye old jeans, Hello kickass shorts

Craving for a good pair of faded denim shorts but just couldn't find one? Why not make one? You just need an old pair of jeans that's no longer in your favourite list, a pair of scissors, and bleaching liquid.

Showing the big difference: from the original dark jeans to the faded cool.

1. Cut off the legs of your old jeans (mine's an old ukay-ukay) according to your desired length. Try them on. If it feels good then it's ready for the bleach soaking to achieve that cool faded wash.

2. Pour enough water into the basin, so the denim is totally submerged in water. Add bleach depending on how faded you want it. (I wanted it to be super faded so I poured the whole bottle into the basin.)

3. Soak for an hour or again, depending on what result you desire. (I soaked it overnight!) Be sure to flip the denim once in awhile to balance out the effect of the bleach.

4. Rinse, wash, let it dry.

Tadaaa! Goodbye old jeans, hello kickass shorts!
